Philadelphia Dance Theatre is delighted to present The Wizard of Oz, an original ballet choreographed by Artistic Director Joy Delaney-Capponi and first premiered by PDT in 2005. Inspired by L. Frank Baum’s beloved 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz—America’s best-loved homegrown fairy tale—this vibrant production brings Dorothy’s journey to life through classical ballet, imaginative storytelling, and a dazzling cast of characters.
Set to a rich musical tapestry featuring selections from the iconic motion-picture score alongside works by Aram Khachaturian and Mikhail Glinka, PDT’s Wizard of Oz blends whimsical magic with early twentieth-century American charm: Kansas cyclones, ruby slippers, a scarecrow in search of a brain, a tender-hearted tin man, and a lion learning to roar with courage.
A timeless tale with universal appeal, The Wizard of Oz invites audiences of all ages to follow the Yellow Brick Road and rediscover the power of friendship, imagination, and home.
