As a parent, finding a dance program that goes beyond technique and performance can feel like a challenge. But from the moment we stepped into this studio, it was clear that this dance company is something special. It’s not just about steps and recitals—it’s about heart, growth, and connection. What sets this studio apart is its unwavering commitment to nurturing a child’s love of dance in a supportive, inclusive environment. The instructors genuinely care about each dancer—not just as students, but as individuals. They create a space where kids feel safe to express themselves, explore their creativity, and discover the joy of movement. But the impact goes beyond the studio walls. This dance company actively fosters a sense of community, encouraging teamwork, kindness, and support among dancers and families alike. It’s a place where friendships blossom and confidence grows, and where every child, regardless of experience or ability, is celebrated for who they are. Philadelphia Dance Theatre has become more than a studio for us, they are our family- we love them beyond words and can not recommend them more. If I could give more then 5 stars, I would!

"I am continuously impressed by the level of professionalism, commitment, and organization that PDT exhibits. My daughter always feels challenged, but supported and inspired. The older dancers are wonderful role models for the younger dancers and the teachers are strict in a loving and warm way. I can confidently say that my daughter exhibits resilience and a grit that I'm not sure she'd have without being at PDT for the past 4 years. The Nutcracker production is an enormous undertaking, but PDT is incredibly organized and has a fantastic communication plan that makes it easy and incredibly rewarding."

"The dance instruction is phenomenal, but what I appreciate most is the feeling that we are part of a community, a family. Joy is a second mother to all the dancers. She teaches them the art of dance while instilling lessons of goal setting, perseverance, professionalism, respect for others, humility, and time management. These lessons stay with PDT dancers long after graduation and she continues to help them as they navigate life as an adult. PDT is a truly special place.”

“From my perspective as a parent of an 11 year PDT alumna, now professional dancer, I recommend this treasure of a school for its tops technical prep but even more for its heart full of values, support and ongoing dedication to its current and former students. Wonderful!”

“The training is top-notch, but more than that - the love, guidance, and support are invaluable. PDT has been an essential part of my family's life, and I am very grateful”

“My son has been taking ballet here for 5 years. He is challenged, he is given confidence, he has fun. At performance time, I am amazed at what this school accomplishes. The students put on professional ballets that leave you breathless at times. Joy and her staff love what they do and they do it with professionalism, compassion, and with the child in mind.”

“If your child has any interest in ballet and dance, then do consider PDT for high-quality training that focuses on developing the whole child. My daughter has taken lessons here since she was 3-years-old and is inspired by both professional dance teachers who are disciplined and nurturing, as well as all the older high-school students who are great role models for their commitment and passion to dance. Based in Mount Airy, PDT has that close, community vibe of parents and families who volunteer and make the school a success. The quality of the school is evident in their stellar, original dance performances, including the annual Nutcracker."

“Five Star Dance studio, unbelievably talented and caring staff, and an amazing production of A Philadelphia Nutcracker plus a spring show every year that will impress even the most critical. If your child is drawn to dance, this is the place for you! My daughter has been there for over seven years and it has turned into a second home!”
