Injury / Prolonged Absence Return Policy

At Philadelphia Dance Theatre, the health and safety of our dancers is always our first priority. We understand that injuries are a natural part of dance, and that life circumstances - including personal commitments, mental health needs, or shifts in priorities - may sometimes require dancers to step away from training.

When returning after an injury or prolonged absence, dancers may not immediately resume their previous level. Before placement is restored, dancers must demonstrate sufficient strength, coordination, flexibility, and stamina to safely participate and keep pace with their peers.

This policy ensures the well-being of the dancer and the class as a whole. While medical professionals may clear a dancer for “normal activity,” our faculty must also consider the progress of classmates who have been training continuously. Returning dancers often need a period of reconditioning to rebuild muscle memory and coordination before safely rejoining their prior schedule.

  1. Clearances: Please email to notify of physician's clearance and or PT's evaluation of readiness.

  2. Assessment: Contact the school to schedule an assessment class for the appropriate level.

  3. Reconditioning: A reconditioning period will be recommended by the faculty.

  4. Re-placement: After the appropriate amount of time occurs for reconditioning, faculty will recommend returning to a student's old schedule.

Our goal is to support every dancer’s successful and healthy return. Faculty will work closely with families to recommend an appropriate transition plan that prioritizes recovery, safety, and long-term growth.
