What Your Donation Makes Possible

Boys Tuition Free Program

  • Founded in 2007, Philadelphia Dance Theatre’s Boys Tuition-Free Program was created to make high-quality ballet training accessible to boys across Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.

The program focuses on developing athleticism, flexibility, strength, and coordination, while also nurturing lifelong soft skills such as discipline, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, teamwork, and effective communication.

Classes are tailored to recognize and support the unique energy and physicality of male dancers. As students progress, they receive training in male-specific ballet technique—including jumps, turns, and partnering skills—preparing them for advanced study, college-level classes, or a professional career in dance.

Participants also benefit from performance opportunities, including the chance to audition for A Philadelphia Nutcracker, where they gain theatrical experience and stage presence alongside their technical training.

Mentorship is a vital part of the program: every class is led or supported by a former or current professional male dancer, offering students strong role models and real-world insight into the art form.

Sensory Friendly Programming

  • Philadelphia Dance Theatre is proud to present Sensory Friendly Performances that welcome over 1,000 patrons and their neurodivergent children each season. These specially designed shows—including an abbreviated, 50-minute version of The Nutcracker—offer a relaxed, shush-free, and shame-free environment where audience members of all ages and abilities can enjoy the magic of live dance comfortably.

These performances are created for individuals with autism, sensory processing disorders, cognitive or developmental disabilities, and other physical or neurological differences, along with their families, friends, and caregivers.

To ensure a welcoming experience, we provide the following accommodations:

    • House lights remain dimly on throughout the performance

    • Sudden or loud sounds are softened

    • Patrons may move, vocalize, or exit and re-enter as needed

    • Fidget tools and comfort items are welcome

    • Designated quiet areas are available for breaks

In addition to in-theater accommodations, families will receive access to online preparatory materials, and all audience members are invited onstage after the show for a relaxed, adaptive movement class.

Tickets are heavily discounted to remain accessible and family-friendly. At PDT, everyone is welcome to be themselves—and to experience the joy of dance in an accepting and inclusive space.
