Community Performance Program
Help Us Keep Dance Accessible.
Philadelphia Dance Theatre is deeply committed to making dance accessible, inclusive, and woven into the life of our community. Our Community Performance Program brings professional-caliber dance experiences beyond the stage — into public spaces, neighborhood gatherings, schools, retirement homes, and inclusive performance environments.
At the heart of this program are two signature initiatives:
Breaking Ground - Free Outdoor Performance
Each June, PDT presents Breaking Ground, a free outdoor concert that brings families, neighbors, students, and dance lovers together to experience new choreography by guest artists, alumni, and faculty. Set on our summer stage under open sky, Breaking Ground invites the community to gather, move, and celebrate the performing arts in a welcoming, joyful environment.
Sensory-Friendly Performances
To ensure that everyone can experience the magic of live performance, PDT offers Sensory-Friendly versions of our Nutcracker and Spring Show performances designed especially for audience members who benefit from a more relaxed theater environment. These performances include:
Adjusted lighting and sound
Relaxed audience expectations
Extra support for individuals and families
These shows are deeply meaningful for families who are often excluded or overwhelmed by traditional performance settings.
